Selection of quality materials to produce flitches is the first step to producing quality veneer. This requires an indepth understanding of the logs requiring years of experience with successes and failures. At Toseva, we have been doing this since 1973.
Sawing process too requires knowledge and understanding of timber due to the natural characteristics, experience is very important. Each timber species storage, treatments, sawing techniques requirements are unique to achieve certain sizes, lengths, type of cuts (quarter cuts, plain cuts).
Flitch Obtaining and Slicing
Quality flitches are selected again by our factory technicians which can be slicing quality. These selected flitches will have to undergo treatments and preparations before slicing. Each specie requires their specific process, varies from one specie to another.
A lot of techniques and paying attention to the details to determine flitch slicing into veneers. What is thickness, which side of the flitch to slice and when to switch sides. To do all these and while not damaging and having scratch marks which might occur during slicing process.
Once the veneers are obtained, they will go through the drying process. Every drying factors must be adjusted according to the timber species, thickness of the veneer, duration of drying and heat temperature to achieve the right moisture content which sets path for the next stage, TOSEVAoriginal™.
Veneers at this stage will be ready for lamination onto paper (SV), fleece (FV) and plywood (VP) backing. All these codes are proprietary terms used by Toseva. The lamination methodology consists of glue selections, applications and combination of instruments and techniques.
TOSEVAoriginal™ timber veneers are produced and ready for application.
TOSEVAsurface™ is prefinished/varnished material ready for installation onto applicable fixtures such as FF&E.
TOSEVAsurface™ comes in proprietary formula varnish. Our standard finishing is matte, open/closed-pore and UV coating which was tested and met with the standards and tests.
